Thoughts on Analysis

Diagnostic Interviewing

Knight (2002, p. 188) provides a set of tactics for generating meanings from collected data. Those which are particularly relevant for my research are:
Need to keep thinking about the patterns and themes

Try to develop stories that draw themes together, offer explanations and give a feeling of understnading

Throughout the literature review, I need to keep checking the clusters of themes and concepts (mindmapping good for this).

Exploring metaphors as a way of drawing data together – creative way to look at data.

Ask if something is common / rare

Compaer and contrast categories that are distinctive, this helps create tension in the data analysis, to take it beyond the predictable

Keep thinking about the suitability of clusters, themes and categories as you use them. Be prepared to revise definitions, examples and counter-examples

Check whether analysis is plausible – can it be related to the picture I created in the literature review.
