PhD Applications

Next Steps after an MRes

I am busy completing applications to study for a PhD, following completion of my research methods degree at The Open University.

Last year, I completed a Master of Arts in Online and Distance Education at The Open University. I really enjoyed this degree. There are a variety of optional modules to study for the qualification. The courses are prefixed with the letter H. Click the link to find out more. I wish I could have continued studying all the ‘H’ courses as they were so interesting and I learned such a lot. I studied H804 Implementing online, open and distance learning; H810 Accessible online learning: supporting disabled students and H809 Practice-based research in educational technology.

PhD Application for University of Glasgow

My Tutor for H809 was Professor Vic Lally, who, as well as, working as an Associate Lecturer for The Open University is Professor of Interdisciplinary Science Education Technologies and Learning in the School of Education at the University of Glasgow.

I really enjoyed studying for my Open University course under the supervision of Vic. He provided excellent support and feedback and shared lots of helpful resources. He was open in sharing his research and discussing projects he was working on, which related to the course.

I approached Vic to ask if he’d consider being my PhD supervisor and he kindly agreed, so fingers crossed, I can now gain a place to study at Glasgow. My application was submitted today.
